壁畫背後之故事:

WHEN six-year-old Chang Zen I saw a mural of a little girl in a white dress behind Thirty Two at The Mansion in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Penang, she was surprised that the girl portrayed, looked just like her.
Zen I’s aunt Chang Juet Goh, 49, said an elated Zen I had exclaimed to her parents that ‘Uncle Ernest’ (famed Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic) had drawn a picture which looked exactly like her and that almost everyone could recognise her from the painting.
The latest painting by Zacharevic, which is located behind the restaurant, was completed last week.
Zacharevic, who is famed for his murals in the George Town heritage enclave, posted a picture of his work on his Facebook page on Wednesday, drawing curiosity from his fans who inquired about the location of the art-work.
Since then, visitors have been flocking to the area to take pictures with the painting.
Juet Goh said her niece was photographed by Zacharevic during a wedding at a hotel about two weeks ago. Zen I was one of the flower girls at the wedding.
“Ernest was also a guest there as he was friends with the host.
“He noticed Zen I, who was wearing a blue dress at that time, and started taking her photographs,” said Juet Goh, who spoke on behalf of the family, in a telephone interview yesterday.
She said her brother and sister-in-law (Zen I’s parents) agreed to Zacharevic’s request to paint Zen I, as both of them were also art lovers.
“We are really proud as the painting has now become one of the attractions in the George Town heritage enclave,” said Juet Goh.
Juet Goh added that a similar painting of Zen I in the blue dress is also on display at Zacharevic’s exhibition called ‘Art is Rubbish/Rubbish is Art’ at the old Hin Company Bus Depot in Jalan Gurdwara here. 观看原文
